MARTA and Transportation

First of all, to everyone traveling (especially from New York), please take a look at www.airtran.com before booking a flight. I fly this regularly between Atlanta and NYC, and tickets are usually around $80-90 each way. Delta is also based in Atlanta, but catching Airtran during a ticket special will get you there cheapest.

Although Atlanta is a driving city, there's a way to get around renting a car if you're not carrying too much luggage and don't mind a little walk (NYers, this is you). From Atlanta's Hartsfield airport, MARTA can take you straight to Decatur. MARTA is Atlanta's rapid transit system, and while it won't carry you to all the nooks and crannies of Atlanta, it will work if you're planning on staying within Decatur for your visit. Travelers should pick it up at the airport (the last stop on the South Line) and take it to Five Points (the main MARTA hub). Switch here to East Line, and take it to the Decatur station. Once off MARTA, you're about a 5-10 minute walk form the Holiday Inn and the ceremony site. The Decatur MARTA station is located on Church Street between Trinity and Sycamore, just behing the Old Courthouse (ceremony site). There are usually taxis hovering outside of the station which can also take you to your hotel (this is best for anyone staying at Motel 8). Once at the hotel, all the shops, restaurants and bars of Decatur are within walking distance. I believe MARTA costs about $1.75 per ride.

For car rental, here's a list of companies located within the airport plus contact numbers:

As you book your flights, could you please e-mail me (tostitosgrrl@hotmail.com) with your flight information? I am going to make a spreadsheet with everyones info and see if I can work out some sort of carpool to and from the airport and the hotel.
thank you!
